Biography

 
 

Spanish baritone Antonio Santos has performed in Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Brazil and the United States. A soloist and chamber artist, he has performed with numerous ensembles, including Mater Saule (Madrid, Spain), Chamber Choir of the Early Music Academy of Salamanca University (USAL, Spain), Lipzodes (USA), Concentus (USA), Musica Poetica (Holland), IU Baroque Orchestra (USA), Symphonic Orchestra of Burgos (Spain), and La Stigia, an early –music ensemble which he founded in Spain. He has sung as soloist Purcell´s Dido & Eneas (Eneas), Scarlatti´s USA Premier Tigrane (Orcone), J. S. Bach´s Johannes Passion (Bass) Holzbauer´s Hypermnestra (Delmirus) and Händel´s Giulio Cesare (Curio). As a choir member he has sung Rameau´s Les Indes Galantes and Verdi´s Traviata and Prokoviev´s Love for Three Oranges at Aix-en-Provence Lyric Festival (France). He also took part in Music Festivals such as Bloomington Early Music Festival (USA), Festival Musical de Londrina, Festival Internacional de Música Colonial Brasileira e Música Antiga, (Brasil) Festival de Musica Antigua y Religiosa de Salamanca (Spain) etc. Next Engagements include Bloomington Early Music Festival in May 2009 with Ensemble Sacabuche! and Ensemble El Fénix de los Ingenios (USA) and Boston Early Music Festival with Ensemble Sacabuche! (USA)

 

Antonio Santos has been directed on stage by Tom Diamon, Paige Whitley-Bauguess and Peter Mussbach. He has been conducted by Maestros Gary Wedow, Yutaka Sado, Tukan Sokhiev, Jacques Ogg, Stanley Ritchie, Nigel North and Gabriel Garrido.

 

Mr. Santos received degrees in History and Musicology from the University of Salamanca (Spain) and in Voice from the Professional Conservatory of Music of Salamanca. There he attended courses at the Early Music Academy under the tutelage of David Mason and Richard Levitt. In 2008, Mr. Santos received the Performer Diploma in Voice at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in the Early Music Institute, where he is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree in Voice with Dr. Robert Harrison and in Early Music under the direction of tenor Paul Elliott.

Mr. Santos has been distinguished with the Best Recital of the Year 2009 by the Bloomington Early Music Festival (IN, USA)
